Magic Flash Calculator Chart

This flash guide has been used by thousands of photographers around the world. Chart is a very easy way to calculate your flash power when using strobes in Manual Mode for the ultimate in control and accuracy. When using your flash in manual mode, here are a few tips:

  • Set Camera in Manual Mode
  • Keep shutter below 1/200
  • Use a flash with manual control (Strobie 130)
  • Use a wireless trigger system (Tiny Trigger Set)

To vary distance use the Inverse Square Law- If you half the distance to the subject, reduce flash power by two stops, if you double the distance to the subject or add a diffuser like a shoot through umbrella add two more stops of power.

Justin - Is this chart just for your flashes or another flash with the same gn? If so, how can I calculate the proper exposure for my canon 580ex gn 58/190? I’ve seen some other charts out there but they’re a little confusing.

admin - Just make sure your zoom on your flash head is at 35mm and this chart should work for your flash at around 7ft
